My name is Richard Zimmermann and I'm a lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Manchester.

I work on syntactic changes. My data primarily comes from Old English and Middle English. In addition, I'm interested in quantitative and statistical methods in corpus linguistics, corpus construction, and formal syntax in general.

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in English, Philosophy and Psychology in 2009, and subsequently a Master's degree from the University of York, UK, in General Linguistics in 2010. I joined the PhD programme at the University of Geneva, Switzerland in 2011, spending one year on an SNF grant at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, in 2014-5, and completed my PhD in 2017. After 2 years as a post-doc in Geneva, I was appointed as a lecturer at the University of Manchester, UK, in 2019.
