New Middle English Paper Published |
I have a new paper out! It is entitled "The Loss of Negative Concord with Negative PPs." The focus on the paper is on the loss of the Middle English word "ne", which means "not", in sentences with negative PPs, like "for nobody." Specifically, there is a change that transforms the original "I ne wait for nobody" into "I wait for nobody." Surprisingly, the "ne" appears to be lost much more slowly in such structures than elsewhere. Why might this be? The paper attempts to find out...
The paper appeared in a collection of papers. The volume is entitled "Current Issues in Medieval England" and forms the 59th entry in Peter Lang's series "Studies in English Medieval Language and Literature." It was edited by Letizia Vezzosi from the University of Florence. She has done a great job and put in a lot of work to finish the book during a challenging pandemic. Thanks, Letizia!
If you want to read the paper, you can find an electronic copy under my publications". I hope you'll find it interesting.
